The Guild of St Stephen is the international Organisation of Altar Servers founded in England in 1904 by Father Hamilton McDonald when he formed a Society of Altar Servers at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in London.
In 1905, Pope Pius X gave his approval to the canonical establishment of the Guild at Westminster Cathedral and in 1906, the Sacred Congregation of Rites made the Guild an Archconfraternity Primaria enabling all the parish branches to be linked with it.
The Guild spread, and in 1934, Pope Pius XI enabled all Guilds of Altar Servers throughout the British Commonwealth to be affiliated with the Archconfraternity at Westminster.
During 2025 , two of our members John and Richard have been awarded the silver medal of Merit for 20 years service at the Alter.
Members
The servers at our church are all members of the guild and we are affiliated to the Ordinariate.
Servers Christmas dinner
Following on from Christmas and with the guilds patrons day (boxing day), after Christmas it was decided to relax and go for a meal to celebrate not just St Stephens day but a thank you to two of our servers that are returning to university.
